Things I wish I knew before purchasing a MRCOOL Mini Split

If you're a DIY enthusiast and considering a MRCOOL DIY Mini Split for your home, workshop, or garage, you’re in good company! With thousands of these units sold, we've gathered tons of feedback from DIYers just like you. Let’s break down the key points so you can make the best choice for your next HVAC project.

Line Set Lengths: What You Need to Know.

One of the first things to consider is the line set length. MRCOOL DIY Mini Splits come with pre-charged line sets that cannot be cut or shortened. To give you flexibility, MRCOOL offers various lengths—16', 25', 35', and 50'. The 4th Gen Single Zone units come with a 25' line set, while the Easy Pro Single Zone units include a 16' line set. Need a different length? No problem—you can purchase an additional line set, but there’s no option to swap out the included one.

Energy and Tax Rebates: Are You Eligible?

If you’re all about energy efficiency (and who isn’t?), you’ll want to check if your MRCOOL system qualifies for energy and tax rebates. These incentives are part of the push for cleaner energy, but not all units are eligible—especially the larger BTU condensers. A quick check could save you some cash and a massive headache, so don’t skip this step!

One Mode at a Time: Cool or Heat?

Here’s a tip that applies to all mini splits, not just MRCOOL: your system can only operate in one mode at a time for all connected indoor units. So, if you’re planning a multi-zone setup, remember you’ll need to choose either cooling or heating across the board—you can’t have one zone cooling while another is heating.

Installation: How Handy Are You?

The MRCOOL DIY Mini Split is designed with the handy homeowner in mind. If you’ve got experience installing appliances or equipment and don’t mind tackling a new project, you’re probably good to go. But if the idea of reading through installation instructions makes you cringe, it might be time to call in a pro. A good rule of thumb? If you’re already dreading the install, this might not be the system for you—unless you plan to hire a professional to do the heavy lifting. Don't forget to read our best practices for installing mini splits.

Considering a 4-zone Mr. Cool. Did measures for line sets , considering 8-ft ceilings plus the linear distance to outer wall to arrive at the following: 18K (33-ft ), 12-K (33-ft), 12K (66-ft), and 12K(66-ft). If I could get some assistance, it be appreciated. I am a DIYer but I have read the install guide and want to ensure I configure everything correctly before ordering. A detailed list with total price would be great.
