What is an Evaporator Coil?

You've heard the term Evaporator Coil on TV, your favorite YouTube channels or from your contractors.... you nod and agree... but you might not know what an Evaporator Coil does and it's function.

The Evaporator Coil is an essential part of an air conditioning system with the function of absorbing the heat from the surrounding air to cool down the temperature. The evaporator coil usually looks like a rectangle or triangle steel device, with running tubes located inside full of refrigerant. Like other AC systems, evaporator coils use low temperature refrigerant to absorb the hot air and then release it to the outdoors.

As warm air from the room passes over the coils, the refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air, causing it to evaporate into a gas. This process cools down the air, which is then circulated back into the room, providing a comfortable indoor environment.

These coils are responsible for removing heat and humidity from the indoor air, creating a comfortable environment.

Where is an Evaporator Coil located?

The evaporator coil is located in two places: inside the air handler of your AC system or attached to the furnace.
